My Oh My!!

I haven't posted yet on Keirah's birthday, Noe's birthday, or our wonderful vacation. I'm definitely failing in the blogging department.

First of all, I cannot remember a year that has flown by quicker than this last one has. I'm telling myself that it is that third child added to the mix, along with a rather large house project, followed by several smaller projects, and just general life. I know why I don't blog...definitely not because there are a lack of things to talk about, but because of our days that are packed full from start to finish and barely a free moment for me to have to myself much less sit down and post.

While we absolutely love our little ones, I'm wondering when we can have a date! It's been ages and ages to be honest. Josh has tickets to a concert at the end of this month and I'm wondering who in the world we can have watch the girls. I guess that will work itself out...I hope. They literally go everywhere with us and do everything with us (aside from work obviously).

So, back to all of the events since last time...

Keirah turned 5 right after Labor Day. Her party was a beautiful day and she was very excited to have her very own birthday party (that she remembers). She loved getting things a diva would love. Tonight, in fact she was carrying her purse full of goodies on our walk and posing over and over. We went to Chili's on her birthday, but since we went to Florida a few days later, we celebrated there.

Noe turned one on the 10th anniversary of a horrific day in our nation's history. It was kind of less than celebratory-feeling. We woke up in Birmingham, AL that day (a gorgeous day that was reminiscent of the September day 19 years ago). We were on our way to Florida. We ate a breakfast at our hotel before heading out that pretty much left me on the verge of tears. All of the televisions in the room were tuned in to the events taking place at Ground Zero. I couldn't help but get the lump in my throat and feel incredibly sad as children of those who lost their lives shared stories/memories of that horrendous day.

We left our hotel and enjoyed driving through some beautiful country in Alabama and Florida. We encountered so many nice people along the way. One thing remains...every place we stopped that had a television had it tuned in to the September 11th memorials. Once we arrive in Pensacola, there was a huge motorcycle parade in memory. Many with flags drove by as we waited. We decided to visit Fort Pickens since it has reopened again. I have visited before, however the rest of my family had not. It seemed a perfect activity on the day of reflection. Visiting an actual Fort used in the Civil War and imagining what happened there is something that evokes so much thankfulness for the brave people that serve our country. We all loved and were fascinated by the place. I don't think I could have dreamed of a more education-packed yet super fun vacation for our children. After all, how many kids get to visit and run around in actual Forts from the Civil War and touch cannons and the like. There are "secret" passages in there that adults have to bend over to walk into. It isn't for those that are claustrophobic that is for certain.

Following our visit to Ft. Pickens, we headed to a favorite beach restaurant (Hemingway's Island Grill) for late lunch. We sat on the deck overlooking the water. Let me just say, the South and the love of the South has never left me. I felt like I was at "home" once again. Maybe my second home, but I have missed it so very much.

The most celebratory part of Noe's birthday was when we checked into our hotel. We hurried and changed clothes and sank our toes into that sugary-white sand. It was her first visit to the ocean! After that, we let the warm gulf water lap at our feet. It was all smiles and happiness. This is us, this is what we love, this is what makes us feel truly alive!! The weather was absolutely perfect and that theme continued all week for which we were truly grateful! She really enjoyed eating sand, putting her hands and feet into it and getting it all over herself. Her favorite part each day was to get rinsed off in the little showers that were right outside the gate to the hotel pool.

I have more to share later...today is one of those days where I am tired, tired, tired and missing Florida!
