So, this is my rant for the day or week or whatever...
Living in an illustrious state with a less than illustrious governor, it is July and that means minimum wage has increased--yet again! I believe this makes us one of the highest minimum wage states--if we didn't already have that distinction. We are set to increase for the next 2 years! Now, that sounds good to the people that work in many fast food establishments, Wal-Mart, etc... However, given the fact that these employers have to pay this, does a couple of things. They either a) cut hours and or b) raise prices --usually both. How does this help anyone??
For those that don't make minimum wage, it simply means everything just increased in price. For those that did get an increase, you are basically left back at square one or maybe even worse. If you haven't noticed, prices increase almost every time you go to the grocery store or out to eat or pretty much anywhere you buy things. We noticed McD's must have geared up for this weeks ago--either that or they were trying to combat the economy and minimum wage increase all at the same time. They've been increasing prices on many items.
The place that my husband works gave a raise to the casual part time people (not because they made minimum wage, but they gave them a COL increase. So sorry, to the rest of the hard workers at the store, I guess they weren't worthy of a COL increase. Apparently, if you make more per hour, your expenses don't rise like everyone else's--haha.
Anyway, I would like to thank Mr. Governor for his lovely ideas--one of many he's had since entering office. I guess this will have to make me a wiser shopper and a smarter consumer. I will have to learn to conserve better. Maybe this is a secret plan to get us to be more "green".
