How do I pare down?

The method that works best for me is to pick a room or a specific thing in the room and set out to tackle that.
Are you using it regularly, a little, anymore?? Some things take up a lot of space and aren't in use. You don't need extra stuff to clean around and move around if it isn't in use or useful to you anymore. This applies especially to baby gear. Since we have a busy 16 month old, I've been able to sell some of that LARGE baby gear. Stuff like those toys they push around as they learn to walk. That happened for us 6 months ago, so we don't need it. Then there are those infant toys that are just large. She doesn't just lie around and look at things so those can go also. It really frees up so much space. Can we say baby bathtub?

How about starting with a specific closet or a set of drawers and just move around your house. I list as I go so it isn't overwhelming after I'm all finished.

How about that hobby you used to enjoy, but don't do or have time to do anymore? For me that is making cards. I have minimalized my collection down to just a few things in case I get the urge to do a card here or there. The other stuff I have or am selling. I don't need stamp sets and papers and all of those items sitting around in a closet collecting dust.

Perhaps you can take a look at your furniture/accessories. I did a little mini-makeover without spending a dime. In fact, I ended up with stuff to sell as a result of my mini-makeover. There were lamps in various rooms that I thought didn't match quite right so I moved them elsewhere. In that process, I found 3 that we just didn't need any longer.

What about your children's or your outgrown clothes? I have found & sold soooo many! We keep some, but with the age gap between oldest and youngest, very few things get passed all the way down...maybe a couple of favorites.

How about some pictures or knick knacks that are around your house that you have decided just don't fit your style anymore? I found several things like that.

In this process, it helps organize every dresser, closet and room of the house! I love it. Some things get new use that they weren't getting before and then other things are sold. I keep the money in a certain place and then deposit into the bank every few weeks. It is really cool! I then set a goal as to where the money from things sold is going to go. It may be to pay a bill, put into savings, or upgrade something. Probably most times it goes to a "project" in our house. We plan to put porcelain tile in our basement. Therefore, that is my next saver project from the items I'm selling. It works great and you aren't spending anything extra from what you currently make!

Well, it seems January has been full of organizing type talk. Who knows what February will be. I'm thinking March would be good for flower garden talk. I don't know yet.
