It was a busy day of cleaning around the house so when Keirah started to become emotional, I decided it was bedtime. I let Aliyah stay up a bit longer since she is older and she did take a nap today. The girls share a bedroom--not because they have to, but because they really love being together. Keirah was kind of weepy about going to bed so I asked Aliyah to go comfort her. Aliyah has a knack for doing this. Here is her five year old way of making Keirah happy at bedtime...
1) she takes the cover off the night light making it brighter (see step 2)
2) she gives Keirah her favorite books (see step 1) --must be so she can see them better
3) gives Keirah a favored toy or two -- a ball is usually involved along with a stuffed animal
4) makes sure Kiki has a blanket
5) stays in the bedroom with her for a couple of minutes or even climbs into the crib with her
This stuff works like magic because she will be totally quiet. I often think she's asleep only to hear a page turning in the book awhile later. I went in a few moments ago to check on her to see if she had fallen asleep yet. Here is my 1 year old (going on 7 ) studying all of the different
pages of the book "Pinkalicious". "Pinkalicious" is a book that Aunt Juju got Aliyah. It is a favorite of both girls. Keirah spent so much time looking at the book today as well as so many other times lately.
I decided a few minutes later to check again since it was quiet. Well, Keirah had laid her head on the open pages of "Pinkalicious" and had her blanket over her--progress. I thought I would remove the book to make it more comfortable?? No, that wasn't going to work. She wanted it back. I returned it and she began poring over it again. So funny. I had to laugh about it.
I also had to laugh about another item that has made its way into her crib...a little play teapot that plays "I'm a little teapot". I often hear her making it play that, although not tonight--it's all "Pinkalicious". By the way, this book is about a little girl who eats too many pink cupcakes and turns all pink. The doctor tells her she must stop eating the cupcakes and eat other colors so she can turn back to normal. The pink colors must be enchanting for Keirah.
Hopefully, "pinkalicious" brings some winkin, blinkin, & noddin pretty soon.
