I think...
Before I get into that, I am glad to say that I have completed 17 pages of my Shutterfly book. I plan to work more tonight since Josh is at work and the regular shows are not on due to the VEEP debate. I may turn it on and work on the book while it is on this evening--after our walk and schoolwork of course.
Today after leaving work, I dropped off the bank deposit and proceeded to pick up the girls. I came to a particular intersection and the light had turned yellow. I proceeded to go through--without accelerating. The person to my left did as well although they were maybe half a car length in front of me. Yes, the light turned red, although I was in the intersection when it did. I got about a block and a half down the street when I noticed a police car sitting at the line of the same intersection. Apparently, he decided that he needed to stop this crazy driver known as me. I was on the phone to Josh and told him I was getting pulled over.
I gave him my license and he asked if I knew why I was being pulled over. I told him that I guessed it was because I went through on a yellow. He quickly told me it was red. I told him that the person next to me went through also. He was quick to tell me that they were ahead of me. He asked if everything was correct on my license--well hmmm...the license is brand new and they just started that design so yes it is!! (I didn't say all that, BTW). He asked for my insurance or whatever so I pulled out a pile of papers from the glove box--mostly oil change records and such. I went through them twice taking my time. I'm sure he may have thought he was going to get me for not having insurance or something. I pulled out something else then produced the magic card. I told him I knew it was there somewhere =).
He told me he was going back to his car and that I should remain seated in my vehicle. Seriously, what else was I going to do--do a Chinese fire drill?? I'm surprised he didn't call for back up or something seeing as it was 4 in the afternooon.
I waited & waited. You see the last time I was pulled over was last November--almost a year ago. I was pulled over for get this...allegedly not using my signal when switching lanes--although I always do! Anyway, I was thinking I really hope I do not get a ticket. I don't want to pay more insurace and whatever.
Finally, he came back and handed me the license and reg. I noticed a pink paper in his hand. He told me he was giving me a warning and that I needed to not accelerate, but stop on red. I told him I did not accelerate at all and he said "no, you didn't accelerate, but your wheels weren't over the thick line when the light turned red". Now, how did this eagle-eyed person see or know where my wheels were when they crossed or whatever I don't know. He must have God's vision since he didn't pull up to the intersection behind where I was until I was pretty far up the street. Anyway, I am thankful that I did not get a ticket, however I am annoyed by our local police. If you ask anyone who knows me, they would tell you that I am a very safe driver and that I drive very carefully. I think I have been pulled over 5 times here for things like...this, the blinker when switching lanes, and the other 3 would have been not having my headlights on at dusk. If you ask me, very nit-picky. We are convinced that the local PD does not really do much of anything aside from traffic stops since that's all we see happening. Not only that, my neighbors truck was stolen this summer-they told them that they don't go looking for stolen vehicles. They just wait to get them in a traffic stop. Now, I personally think something is wrong when all you do as a PD is work on traffic stops rather than crime. They have plenty of them out there--doing their traffic stops. The neighbor got his truck back, not because the police found it, but because a lady who lived nearby knew something wasn't right and phoned them. Of course, they didn't catch or try to catch the person who stole it--it's too much work.
Shortly after my traffic stop and warning, I saw the following a few blocks away...
a female riding a bicycle with a 2 year old balanced between herself and the front handlebars AS WELL AS a newborn (possibly 3 months old) on the back of the bicycle. The littlest one was in a not-so-safe looking seat. Not only that, she was riding a bike that made horrid squeal noise whenever she went to apply the brakes.
Something tells me that those children were quite endangered. I'm thinking she probably should have just walked with the little ones. Of course, the police weren't stopping that one.
Am I the only one who has these nit-picky encounters with police?????????

I'm happy that you got a warning instead of a ticket! Here the city has cameras at all of the red lights, so you get a ticket in the mail.
I need to tell the story of the time I got a ticket in the mail from the city of Springfield for a parking violation when I hadn't been to S'field for 2 years!!
I got pulled over for going 71 on the interstate. No ticket (clean driving records help!) but he really ticked me off!!
Yep, the PD in your area are picky. Don't waste any time worrying about it though. Just not worth it.
Hugs!
